Radhika shares Strawberry Switchblade cover with Camera Obscura and Pastels members

Scottish dream pop project Radhika has released a new version of Strawberry Switchblade’s “Since Yesterday”, featuring harmony vocals from Tracyanne Campbell (Camera Obscura) and Mitch Mitchell (The Pastels).

The track precedes the debut album Cine-Pop, due 22 May via Glass Modern.

Radhika is led by vocalist and guitarist Radhika Meera Dade, alongside her father Sushil K Dade (Future Pilot AKA) on bass and electronics, and Eric MacDonald on keys and drum loops. The group’s sound draws from David Lynch’s film work, Indian heritage, and pop acts including Cocteau Twins, Broadcast, Felt, and The Go-Betweens.

The single revisits a 1980s cult classic by the Scottish duo Strawberry Switchblade. “A few years ago, my dad showed me his collection of 7 inch vinyl, and ever since then Strawberry Switchblade have been one of my favourite bands,” Radhika said. “Listening to the 7 inch of ‘Since Yesterday’ again and again, inspired me to create a stripped back interpretation of the song.”

The full album, due next month, runs 33.3 minutes – a deliberate length, according to the press materials, “designed to be played in one sitting”. It includes tracks dating back to a song Radhika wrote aged ten, “Future Me”, described as an eco anthem. Other contributors include her mother Vinita on vocals, Gerard Love (Lightships/ex-Teenage Fanclub), and producer Colin McGeogh, who also plays flute, keys, and electronics.

Radhika has previously drawn support from Stephen Pastel, Robert Forster, Stuart Murdoch, Duglas T Stewart, and C Duncan. Live dates include London and Glasgow album launch shows.

“Ever since I entered this realm, music has surrounded me in every way possible,” Radhika said. “The sounds of magic have been nourishing my soul since birth, the first memories I have as a young child are listening to my dad’s eclectic vinyl collection.”
