PUNCHBAG sign to Mute and release debut single, "Fuck It"
South London sibling duo Clara and Anders Bach – AKA PUNCHBAG – have signed to Mute for the release of their debut single, "Fuck It".
On the new single, vocalist Clara sings of a life buffeted by anxiety and the fear of wasting time. The song's central refrain ("We might as well just say go fuck it / Cos we’re all gonna die, die, die!") might be viewed as PUNCHBAG’s manifesto, although “it’s not nihilistic,” Clara insists. “It’s more like, we only have so much time, so do the thing you want to do. Kiss the person you want to kiss, say that thing you want to say.”
“We take it seriously. We’ve thought about it a lot, and it was important that from the first time we performed it was fully formed. We’re Virgos. We’re perfectionists,” says Clara of their live shows. “At the end of the set, I just scream until everyone’s jumping,” she says. “We want it to be cathartic, but also really joyful. Joy is one of the things that you can’t really argue with, it’s not an opinion – you can either get involved or not.”
