Pom Poko announce their third studio album, Champion
Norway's Pom Poko have announced their forthcoming third studio album, “Growing Story”, alongside the brand new single, "Champion".
Commenting on the track Pom Poko say: “On this album we wanted to explore simplifying our sound and make some songs a bit more grungy and heavy-hitting. ‘Growing Story’ came out of that process. This song and its title is kind of describing the themes on this record: growing up, whatever that means, and finding yourself in a place where you realise you can contain a lot of different stuff at the same time.”
Additionally, Pom Poko have announced news of an extensive headline UK tour running throughout October, with shows in Portsmouth, Nottingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Sheffield, Birmingham, and more.
Champion follows on from their 2019 debut Birthday and 2021’s critically acclaimed follow-up Cheater.
For the first time ever, the band self-produced this record, which only enhanced their sense of creative freedom. “We’re at the point where we can work, like, telepathically,” says Ola. “While making the album, we talked very little in the studio, and there was very little artistic intention that we had to convey to each other. Everyone knew what they were supposed to do. Maybe when we're trying to communicate with a producer, we tend to cram in a lot of ideas, whereas now it's like, 'This is the song.’”
Champion is set for release on 16 August via Bella Union and is available to pre-order here.
