Planningtorock recruits Peaches for "The Breaks" remix
Planningtorock - the musical project of Tallinn-based artist, producer and composer Jam Rostron - has released a collaborative version of their 2011 song "The Breaks" featuring Peaches.
"The Breaks", arrives as the latest rework in a series of collaborations, following Romy’s take on “The One”, I.JORDAN's on "Doorway", ABSOLUTE. and BIMINI's reimagining of "Let's Talk About Gender Baby," and Art School Girlfriend’s release of “Much To Touch”. On "The Breaks", the pair strip back the synths on the original track — lifted from Planningtorock's 2011 album, W — to leave strings and saxophone with additional vocals from Peaches.
“I always loved this song and its heartbeat-style kick," Peaches says. "It sounded like Kate Bush meets Malcolm McLaren’s Madame Butterfly. With its frantic, dramatic lyrics and catchy chorus, I was hooked into the emotion of it all. I wanted to capture the emotion and bring out its fragility using a real string section. The Squirt Deluxe produced the track and also brought in live saxophone, lush backing vocals, and challenged me to use no electronics whatsoever.”
“The Breaks is a song about vulnerability and owning one’s fire," Rostron adds. "Before I was ever even close to transitioning I felt my fire waiting and growing deep inside of me longing to be free. It’s also a song about frustration and feeling invisible. ‘Don’t be seduced until you know my truth’ meaning you can’t know me if you don’t see me and you definitely can’t touch me if you don’t see me."
"Peaches told me that she’d always wanted to sing this song, which moved me," they continue. "She was the first artist I saw perform live when I moved to Berlin back in 1999 and her show blew me away. Peach, for me, has always been about owning your truth and living your fire and so it feels appropriate that she chose The Breaks to rework. I absolutely adore her version. It emphasizes even more the songs message with its raw and powerful sound giving it an emotionally exposed feeling that is just incredible. Love you Peach!!!”
