Philadelphia band Her New Knife return with new track, "Lyre"

Formed by vocalist and guitarist Edgar Atencio, guitarist Ben Kachler, bassist and vocalist Carolina Schooley, and drummer Elijah Ford, Her New Knife have been releasing music via Julia’s War Recordings — the label founded by They Are Gutting a Body of Water's Doug Dulgarian — since 2023.

"Lyre" arrives as the quartet's first new music since their 2024 EP chrome is lullaby, and its deluxe edition chrome is lullaby: re , which dropped last year and features remixes from They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Angel Emoji (Frost Children), Grimace, Red Rakes, Certain (Sword II), and SILICONE VALLEY.

Atencio describes "Lyre" as “A simple and beautiful pop song." He continues: “Started with an arrangement I did on classical guitar, during a moment where I felt generally disaffected by music, writing this song and playing more classical guitar invigorated me, and this song was a catalyst for the final push towards finishing our album. The drums are a love letter to UNKLE and Massive Attack. The glassy guitar parts are just Ben and I’s affinity for piano-like textures. There is also actual piano on the song. The song is not deep; the lyrics are essentially ‘I love music.’”
