R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Mike Mills feature on new Stef Chura album, Dancing Alone on the Concrete
Detroit singer-songwriter Stef Chura has announced her first new album in seven years, Dancing Alone on the Concrete, and shared new single, "Danny", which features Peter Buck and Mike Mills of R.E.M.
Dancing Alone on the Concrete follows 2019's Midnight, and a significant period of personal change which saw the end of her engagement, two moves, the birth of her first child, and eventually a return to Detroit. The album tracks her experience of starting over, with "Danny" arriving as the first preview of the collection of songs.
The album was recorded at Chase Park Transduction studio in Athens, with production from Robert Schneider of Apples in Stereo, as well as contributions from Sugar‘s David Barbe and Now It’s Overhead‘s Andy LeMaster. “When I was in New Orleans, the freedom to date was exciting,” Chura says of the experiences that inspired Dancing Alone on the Concrete. “But there’s this search for love in the album, and no real arrival at any point in time.”
Following the album's release, Chura will be hitting the road to support Dinosaur Jr. on their North American tour, kicking off on 9 October in Las Vegas and continuing through November.
