Overmono join forces with John Joseph Holt on new single, “Knight In Shining Prada”
Overmono have released “Knight In Shining Prada”, featuring British poet John Joseph Holt, the final single from their upcoming album, Pure Devotion, due in August.
Emerging from a period of loss, "Knight In Shining Prada" originally started as a voice note from Holt. His lyrics were inspired by the relationship between brothers Tom and Ed Russell — aka Overmono — which brought back memories of his late brother. The pair matched it with an instrumental, and after reworking eighty-three different versions, it ultimately became the centrepiece of Pure Devotion.
“My brother Thomas Edward Holt had an incredibly adventurous soul that inspired everyone around him. He was a carpenter, a photographer – an artist in the truest sense. He took his own life on January 10th, 2017, aged 31," Holt shares. "To make something so positive out of something so crushing is the greatest gift. May this song remind people of loved ones they have lost and bring them closer to their hearts. If we play it loud enough, do you think they will hear us in heaven?”
"As soon as he sent it to us, it all just felt so perfectly familiar," Ed adds. "It was one of those ones where we're sat in the studio, and the hair is standing up on our arms."
“He’s got such an incredible way with words,” Tom continues, commenting on Holt's lyricism. “It's deeply personal to him, but there's something that's so free-flowing and natural about it.”
Pure Devotion is released on 7 August via XL Recordings
