Overmono announce second album, Pure Devotion

Pure Devotion sees brothers Tom and Ed Russell come together three years after releasing Good Lies, their debut album as Overmono. "Lockup" arrives as the first preview of what's regarded as the pair's most ambitious work to date, described as "the sound of beautiful imperfections". The track came to be after reading Simon Reynolds’ book Rip it Up and Start Again, and arrives alongside a music video directed by Rollo Jackson.

The album features experimental production techniques, as well as contributions from British poet John Joseph Holt, close collaborator Kindora, and Paul Institute’s Ruthven, coming together as a reimagining of their 2024 live show captured in isolated writing and recording retreats to Spain and Iceland.

Speaking about Pure Devotion, Overmono explain, “For us, making music has always been about having fun. being in the studio together, having a laugh. a never ending process of exploring new ways of making tunes. forever learning, always trying to get better - v83 was a new pb on one of these tracks…

"With this album we wanted to try make something that captured the physical space of our studios. setting up loads of ways of processing, recording, re-amping sounds…. ‘the vocal isn’t sitting quite right? let’s track it through an old tannoy speaker in the basement. that synth needs to twang harder? Let’s play it through an old train station announcement speaker from the 1930’s.’ we ran tape over magnets, blew up some speakers and finally utilised that dirt cheap overclocked fx unit we snaffled years ago in Bromley. we even oven baked a cymbal covered in coffee grounds, crisps and vinegar - thank you, Sylvia Massy, for that one.
