“In my mind, I’m making normal house music”: Nikki Nair debuts on dh2
Nikki Nair has announced his debut EP for dh2, The Sick Dimension, a four-track collection that finds the US producer channelling his experimental tendencies through the prism of old-school house music.
The EP – due 3 July – marks the Atlanta-based artist’s first studio output since 2025’s Violence Is The Answer on Future Classic, and arrives off the back of a career that has seen him collaborate with Hudson Mohawke, Ahadadream and, most recently, The Avalanches. Known for a production style that cuts across genres including UK breakbeat, garage, electro and techno, Nair has built a reputation as a versatile figure capable of moving between warehouse parties and large-scale raves. The release is previewed by lead single “Default Mode”.
Recorded using what Nair describes as “all of the weird gear that I have”, The Sick Dimension finds the producer reconnecting with the foundations of dance music while pushing his sound into noisier, more abstract territory. Speaking about the record, Nair says he was focused on making music that excited him personally rather than responding to external expectations. “In my mind, I’m making normal house music, but when I get feedback, I guess it does not sound like normal house music to most people,” he explains.
The EP is housed in an original cover piece by visual artist Frank Dorrey and follows a busy period for Nair that's also included remix work for Caroline Polachek, Kylie Minogue and The Blessed Madonna, as well as releases on Warp, Hyperdub, LuckyMe and Studio Barnhus.
