NGHTCRWLR signs to YEAR0001 and shares new track, "Infrared"

New-York based NGHTCRWLR, the sonic vehicle for multi-hyphenate artist Kris Esfandiar, has shared new single, "Infrared" as her debut for Stockholm's YEAR0001 label.

NGHTCRWLR reflects, “‘Infrared’ began as a poem, loosely rooted in my mother’s words—but as I reworked the song, it naturally took on more meaning. The song speaks on inescapable karmic debts, the gift of discernment, and the quiet resilience required to follow your calling despite constant opposition.”

The single arrives with a glossy music video, directed by her close friend Stony. It finds NGHTCRWLR and her friends dancing in front of a suited-up soundsystem at an abandoned carpark in Brooklyn, New York. NGHTCRWLR’s affinity for big systems is deeply rooted in her DNA.

“Growing up, my dad was obsessed with rebuilding and repairing sound systems so when this new music took shape, so did the idea of sound systems being incorporated in the process,” she says. “As a kid, I’d sit with him while he played music out of whatever system he was repairing at the time. He’d ask me to describe what I was hearing through the speakers. I didn’t understand at the time but those moments shaped how I listen and relate to music. The older I get, the more I see how much of him lives in what I create.”

"Infrared" is out now via YEAR0001.
