New Pip Blom/ Personal Trainer project Long Fling makes UK debut at End of the Road Festival
Willem Smit from Personal Trainer and Pip Blom brought their Dutch indie supergroup Long Fling to End of the Road Festival today for their first UK performance.
The duo – whose touring band also includes other members of Pip Blom – will release their self-titled debut album this October, and have only played a handful of shows so far in their native Netherlands.
Opening the Folly Stage this morning, Long Fling played new music from their upcoming album – including recent single “Flung” – as well as a tender cover of Arthur Russell’s “I Never Get Lonesome”. Their sound mixed the best of the two bands – the rogue irreverence of Personal Trainer and tight pop shine of Pip Blom, with blooping keyboards and goofy, interweaving guitars competing with the two singers’ trade-off vocals.
“It’s been a lot of fun doing this project,” Blom says. “We’re doing almost everything ourselves.”
Both Pip Blom and Personal Trainer have long been regulars in the UK, with Personal Trainer playing End of the Road’s Garden Stage yesterday and the Woods Stage back in 2023. Long Fling returns to the UK in October for a series of release shows in Brighton, London, and Manchester.
End of the Road Festival concludes today with headline sets from Father John Misty; Black Country, New Road; John Maus; and Fabiano Palladino.
Earlybird tickets for End of the Road Festival’s 20th anniversary edition in 2026 will be on sale from Tuesday 2 September via endoftheroadfestival.com
