New independent venue One Eighty One to open with support of community Kickstarter
Community-backed record store and bar One Eighty One is set to open this Friday on Holloway Road.
One Eighty One is the first permanent venue founded by London promoter Rod ‘Spin Doctor’ Gilmore, known for his parties, club nights, and live events under The Doctor’s Orders. The new venture comes as the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign in support of the community space launching in Islington.
During the day, One Eighty One will serve as a record shop and café, stocking hip-hop, house, and soul. In the evening, it will become a DJ led bar for collectors, artists and local residents, hosting a programme oriented towards London’s underground scene.
“Islington has a rich musical heritage and I am excited to now be the next part of that in the area I’ve called home my entire life. With quality on all fronts, whether that is drink, records, food or DJs this will be an unpretentious friendly hangout spot for all of London,” Gilmore says of the new space.
One Eighty One’s public opening will take place on 12 December.
