New IFPI report reveals 69% of people think music is essential for supporting mental and physical wellbeing
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has published a new global report titled Engaging with Music 2022, and it reveals that 69% of people who took part believe music is integral for their mental and physical wellbeing.
The Engaging with Music 2022 report is based on responses of over 44,000 people across 22 countries, and is "based on the largest music study of its kind". According to the findings, 69% of people who took part in the report believe music is necessary for supporting their mental health, and the same percentage think music is important for maintaining physical health while exercising.
IFPI's new report also found that the average weekly time that people listen to music for is higher than ever, at 20.1 hours. In 2021, the average weekly listening time was 18.4 hours.
75% of those who took part in the report "enjoy music in multiple formats", and 50% of 16-24 year-olds "discover a new music artist at least weekly". The report also found that 52% of those involved that were based in the UK pay for a music subscription service, and there has been a 10% growth in "time spent listening to on subscription audio streaming services" this year.
