Nell Mescal returns with new single “Settles”, lines up London pop-up show
Nell Mescal has shared a new single, “Settles”, via Atlantic Records and will mark the release with a special pop-up performance at Ridley Road Market in London on 20 July, joined by her guitarist for a stripped-back set.
“Settles” works through the emotional weight of a long-distance relationship, pairing vulnerability with a quiet sense of hope. In the Irish singer's own words, it captures the ache of repeated airport goodbyes and the belief that things might eventually calm.
“'Settles' is a love song about a long distance relationship where it feels like the time spent together is fleeting and that you always seem to be saying goodbye to each other at an airport,” Mescal explains. “It’s about the hope that one day the dust will settle, life will get less busy and the two of you will get to be together without any interruptions. It’s about reassurance, yearning, hope and loving someone from a distance.”
The London pop-up arrives after a period of steady momentum for Mescal, following the recent single “Thin” and support slots with HAIM, Dermot Kennedy, and Florence + The Machine.
Beyond Ridley Road Market, Mescal is confirmed for Kendal Calling at the end of July and London’s All Points East on 22 August.
