Mysterious noise-rock supergroup Vorhex Angel share "Okie’s Song I" from forthcoming album DRAIN
The infamously elusive, anti-social media trio Vorhex Angel has released the first single from their upcoming double album DRAIN, which won't be available on Spotify.
The origins of “Okie’s Song I” predate the group’s formation. “I had this group of chords around for a long time and played it with lots of approaches but never shared it live or on a record,” said Kunal Prakash of Silver Synthetic, who forms the band alongside brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall (of JEFF the Brotherhood). “I always had a feeling the best way to use it would be with Jake and Jamin when the time was right.”
Jake Orrall described it as “the most composed of the songs on DRAIN,” adding: “The lyrics are about the frustration of being caught in a negative pattern, a feedback loop. I remember getting chills hearing Kunal’s solo in playback.”
Unlike the group’s earlier, more visceral output – which earned comparisons to Japanese psych band High Rise – DRAIN
represents a shift toward the cerebral. The double album spans seven
tracks, moving from morning to night across guitar solos and drone
excursions.
Vorhex Angel will celebrate the physical release of DRAIN on 13 June at The Antique Barn in New Jersey, followed by a northeast tour with pedal steel player Luke Schneider from mid-July. Watch the new music video below.
DRAIN is released on 12 June via Soul Selects
