Mother Soki shares cryptically on-brand new single "Mussel" ahead of second EP
Annie Tammearu's goth-pop project Mother Soki has released “Mussel”, the latest single from Act 2. The five-track EP arrives on 20 November via Mom + Pop, when the Minneapolis artist will be out on her first headline tour.
“Mussel” follows both “The Rot” and “Thicken” as the EP's third preview. The new collection will be the follow up to last year's Fantasy as well as her viral breakout single "Rivet Gun", of which Ellie Goulding asked “What is this sorcery?”.
Of the new songs, Tammearu's cryptically on-brand explanation was: “Everything is different. Everything is the same.”
Act 2 features five songs made with producers Jack Pfeffer and Bradley Hale (Now, Now; Claud). Tammearu described it as “a list of mantras and counter-mantras tied to the same world”. The EP’s computer-recorded stems were run through a multitrack tape machine with an adjusted speed to create a blurry, past-and-present feel.
Her influences spanned a suitably whimsical and abstract gamut: Cocteau Twins, Prince, Joni Mitchell’s experimental 1980s records, as well as David Lynch, The NeverEnding Story, and Labyrinth.
The North American tour opens 11 November in Chicago and concludes mid-December in December, taking in 13 dates.
