Mike D details debut solo album Thank You, shares new single “True Colors”

Beastie Boys’ Mike D has announced his debut solo LP, Thank You, for release on 28 August. The news arrives alongside a new track, “True Colors”, and marks his first full-length collection of original material since the Beastie Boys’ Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 in 2011.

The 13-track record was built from low-pressure recording sessions at Mike D’s home studio, initially with his sons Skyler and Davis. Collaborators including Carter Lang, Jared Solomon, Ging, Jason Lader, Eddie Ruscha and Tyran Donaldson joined across various locations, with Derek “MixedByAli” Ali handling mixing and Nicolas de Porcel mastering.

“It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration,” Mike D said in a press statement. “And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality.”

“True Colors” follows recent singles “What We Got” and “Switch Up”. The new track is accompanied by a visualiser. Earlier this month, Mike D played his first UK shows under the Mike 5D banner, with dates at Kings Street Social Club in North Shields and two nights at London’s 26 Leake Street, a venue inside the South Bank’s graffiti tunnel. Further European appearances are scheduled through June, including slots at Primavera Sound Porto and Beyond The Pale festival in Ireland.
