MF Tomlinson reveals plans for new EP, Heaven Is Other People

This marks Tomlinson's first new music since his third album, Die To Wake Up From A Dream, which was released last year. It's described as a new creative chapter for the singer-songwriter, which is introduced by "Heaven Is Other People".

Speaking about the track, Tomlinson explains: "Ten months ago I became a father - not long after, fragments of lyrics and chords assembled themselves into this song. This song is a crystallisation of the sun in the morning, three in the bed, three hours sleep-happiness that’s here now. It’s the sound of a little smile, a release after a long time of quietly hoping, a trajectory that brought on a whole new body of work. We recorded this in our studio, inspired by artists like Tom Waits, Mitski & Ron Sexsmith. Hope you dig!"

Heaven Is Other People is described by Tomlinson as "a collection of lo-fi gestural pieces on human connection". The five songs were written after the birth of his first child and recorded during impromptu sessions at his studio in Poplar, London, with a team of regular collaborators including Ed Grimshaw on drums, Ben Manning on bass, Gail Tasker on flute, and Kayvon Nabijou on keys and saxophone.

Expanding on Tomlinson's blend of folk, orchestral pop, experimental jazz, slowcore and ambient sound, Heaven Is Other People also incorporates voice notes and readings, threading more personal easter eggs within the tracks. "Sometimes the power of a song is to reach for meaning words cannot access. At other times it’s a gift that lets you name something profound - so simply - that it feels effortless. It’s too easy to forget in the cynicism of our day-to-day that it’s people who make our lives what they are, and people that we will see in our dreams."
