Memorial sign to OPIA Community and share new single, "Teeth"
Brighton duo Memorial have announced their signing to Opia Community and released their new single, "Teeth", their first release on the label.
As the latest signees to OPIA Community, the label founded by Ólafur Arnalds, Memorial – formed by Jack Watts and Oliver Spalding — join the likes of RAKEL, Sofi Paez, and more. The new track was written at the Sounds From a Safe Harbour residency in Cork and recorded in in Iceland at Arnalds’ Reykjavík studio, with the lyrics tackling the feeling of things being on the verge of breaking.
Discussing the single, Watts explains, “For me it’s an ode to happiness from a conflicted pursuer. A way of processing feelings I didn’t fully understand. I hope it gives listeners space to find their own meaning in it.”
Speaking about their signing to OPIA, Spalding adds, “OPIA represents everything I’ve always loved about community in music. I feel incredibly grateful to be releasing these delicate songs with a label that has made me feel so safe and supported.”
