Melt-Banana's remix of Salvo Beta finally arrives on streaming
Melt-Banana’s remix of Salvo Beta’s track "Alpha Boost" is out today as the first taste of Evil Against Evil: The Kids in the Neighborhood Grab Their Bats & Remix Abrasive Stuttering. The 2002 remix album, which has never been available on streaming services, will be reissued digitally and on CD by Someoddpilot Records on 4 December.
Salvo Beta is the project of Portland-based electro-experimental artist Sean Wolfe. For the original release, he handed tracks from his debut, Abrasive Stuttering, to 16 artists working across IDM, noise, post-rock, and industrial. The resulting record captured a specific moment of laptop-core music where producers were exploring glitches and remix albums were a common fixture of the scene.
Besides the Japanese noise rock band, the lineup also includes Milwaukee post-rock band Pele (Polyvinyl), Chicago’s The Timeout Drawer – featuring the founder of Someoddpilot label Chris Eichenseer on drums – and Hrvatski (Planet Mu), alongside Twine (Ghostly International), Jake Mandell (Carpark), and Sutekh (Force Inc.).
Chris Eichenseer said: “This record has never been streamed before, and it represents everything the label was founded on. I see it as a who’s who of daring artists making the most essential music of that time and now. With the music industry flattened into Spotify algorithms, this music is an absolute necessity to support and grow right now.”
The reissue arrives as Wolfe returns to music following a significant period away. After surgery to remove an acoustic neuroma and restore his hearing with a cochlear implant, he released his first new music in decades this spring.
