Marie Dahlstrom details jazz-inspired self-titled album, MARIE
Roskilde-born and London-based vocalist, songwriter and producer Marie Dahlstrom has announced her upcoming third album, MARIE, and shared new single "1 Journey Away".
On MARIE, Dahlstom is expanding on the R&B sound of her previous work — her 2020 debut album Like Sand and 2023 release A Good Life — by leaning into jazz influences. "1 Journey Away" follows previous album singles "Alive", featuring singer and rapper Jords, and "Frostbite".
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Dahlstom explains, "The song is about family life - having loved ones spread across different countries and carrying that constant feeling of wanting to be closer to them. It reflects a longing for a slower, simpler way of living, where connection and togetherness matter more than everything else happening around you.”
MARIE was written over two years between London, Copenhagen and Los Angeles. It features more live instrumentation and expansive arrangements, with production from Corey Fonville of US jazz quintet Butcher Brown, and additional contributions from Cuban percussionist Eliel Lazo and Los Angeles musician Elijah Fox.
