Maria Somerville announces second studio album, Luster
Irish musician Maria Somerville has announced details of her forthcoming second album, Luster, alongside the release of the album's latest single, "Garden".
Last year, Maria Somerville introduced Luster with her first new single in three years, "Projections".
By the time Irish musician Maria Somerville started writing Luster, her label debut for 4AD, she had lived away from her native Connemara for quite some time. During her time in Dublin, she developed an atmospheric dream pop signature inspired by the landscape of her youth. This culminated in 2019's self-released LP, All My People. It was upon returning to Connemara, in a house near where she was raised overlooking one of the country’s largest lakes, Lough Corrib, that work commenced on the songs that would eventually become Luster.
Somerville found a renewed sense of creative energy upon returning to home soil. It provided “fertile ground” for free-flowing recording sessions in her small living room studio, where she stitched together demos that were then fleshed out with friends and collaborators, and later mixed by the renowned New York-based engineer Gabriel Schuman.
Maria Somerville has also announced UK and European tour dates taking place in April and May, finishing at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) on 10 May.
Luster is due for release on 25 April via 4AD, and is available to pre-order now. For more information on her tour, visit mariasomerville.com.
