Makeshift Art Bar sign to Heist or Hit and announce new EP, Marionette

Belfast-based quartet Makeshift Art Bar have signed to Heist or Hit (Westside Cowboy, Her’s), revealed the details of their upcoming EP, Marionette, and shared lead single, "Chocolate".

Formed by Joseph Sweeney (vocals, guitar, electronics), Callum McGuigan (bass), Alleyah Boulaich (drums) and Callum Sweeney (guitar, lapsteel), Makeshift Art Bar made their debut with last year’s EP, Lackluster Writing Makes Fundamental Reading. "Chocolate" arrives as the first preview of the upcoming album, and is described as a “nauseating cacophony of euphoria”.

Speaking about the song, the group say: “Choosing loneliness is something we all relate to. In ‘Chocolate’, loneliness is less of an escape and more of a surrender - losing all control makes a life of solitude easy to accept. It’s accepted with warmth. Our character screams the paradox of saying everything, yet having no desire for anything in return. This is the last attempt to gain ownership, despite their imminent doom. This is a descent into a cave of madness and the deeper we go, the harder it is to hear the voice of clarity at the surface. The frenzied mantra becomes a prison - built brick by brick with your own hands. Defeated, deflated, alone…”

Marionette was produced by Daniel Fox (Sprints, MELTS, Psychotic Monks), offering a collection of songs which combine post-punk with grunge, electronica, metal, hardcore and art rock. Ahead of the release of the EP, the band are set to support Chalk on their European tour beginning later this week, before their own headline shows in Dublin and Derry, plus a date at 3Olympia with Just Mustard.
