Mae Stephens announces UK tour and shares new single "Delusional"
Mae Stephens has released her new single "Delusional", alongside confirmation of a UK headline tour in partnership with the Music Venue Trust.
The track, which Stephens recently told followers she believed could be “the delulu song of the summer”, is written with producer OSKI and arrives after a series of recent live dates that included a guest appearance at G-A-Y, and a set at the first UK edition of the Anti Social Camp showcase.
The song’s subject matter deals with infatuation to an extreme degree. “The song is about being so infatuated by someone that you would stoop to delusional levels to gain their affection,” Stephens explains. “There are heavy themes in this track of obsession, denial and stalking which are very prominent in the second verse.”
Stephens and OSKI worked on the song with less than an hour of sleep. “OSKI has an incredible ear for harmonies and played a massive hand in creating each layer of the incredible chorus and backing vocals,” Stephens adds. “I had so much fun creating this track and definitely feel that it pulled me out of my comfort zone on the songwriting side.”
The accompanying video places Stephens in a Technicolour alternate reality, a throwback to B*Witched "C’est La Vie". Alongside the single, Stephens has confirmed a new UK headline run for November, delivered in partnership with the Music Venue Trust’s Liveline Fund. The initiative is dedicated to ensuring new and developing live music reaches communities across the country, working with artists, promoters and venues to reinvigorate local live music scenes. The November dates open with an Edinburgh show on 2 November and close with a London show on 12 November.
