Madra Salach release live version of “The Man Who Seeks Pleasure” from sold-out London show
Irish alternative-folk six-piece Madra Salach have shared a live recording of “The Man Who Seeks Pleasure”, captured during their sold-out headline performance at The Dome in London earlier this year. The track is out today (26 June) via ISLAND Records.
The song has been a constant in the band’s set since their earliest days on the Dublin pub circuit, gradually evolving into a fan favourite. Last summer it became something of an anthem on the Irish festival run, and earlier this year it was singled out as a standout moment at The Great Escape. The new live cut transkits the ragged, communal energy that has turned the track into a set staple.
It lands off the back of the group’s debut EP It’s a Hell of an Age, released in January. That record reached No. 3 on the Irish Albums Chart and broke into the Top 10 of the UK Official Independent Albums Chart, picking up support from BBC 6 Music in the process. Both “The Man Who Seeks Pleasure” and the single “Blue & Gold” were playlisted by the station, with live sessions recorded for Steve Lamacq and New Music Fix.
The EP takes its title from the opening line of “Murphy Can Never Go Home”, a song that follows an Irish labourer working in Britain and slowly losing touch with his roots - a theme that has clearly resonated well beyond Dublin.
The band are set for a packed summer across the UK and Europe, with shows confirmed at Roskilde, End of the Road, Green Man, and Latitude. An October headline tour is also confirmed, with the majority of dates already close to selling out.
