Directed by Torso – the production company behind Charli xcx's recent videos – Madonna's Confessions II film premiered last week at the 25th Tribeca Film Festival and received standing ovations. You can now watch it on YouTube for free.
The Division-produced short stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Moss, and Cole Palmer, with music direction from Stuart Price. It offers an immersive preview of six tracks from her forthcoming album Confessions II, set for release on 3 July via Warner Records.
Closer to a continuous visual album than a conventional music video, the film stitches together six chapters that each accompany a different song: "I Feel So Free", "Good for the Soul", "One Step Away", "Bring Your Love" (featuring Sabrina Carpenter), "Danceteria", and "Read My Lips" (with Colombian singer Feid). The sequences bleed into one another, mirroring the album’s approach of erasing the gaps between tracks to craft a single narrative.
According to the film’s synopsis, it’s a journey through “a fucked‑up night out that’s remembered not for what happened, but for how it felt.” Madonna is chased down by a roving squad of camera‑wielding femmes as the action moves from bedroom to club bathroom to car, always returning to the dance floor.
The film gives a nod to Danceteria, the legendary New York club that shaped Madonna’s early career, and stars a sprawling cast of collaborators: as well as Cumberbatch, Moss, and Chelsea footballer Cole Palmer, there is also actress Debi Mazar, DJ/producer Honey Dijon, Chelsea striker João Pedro, Richard E. Grant, and British artist Shygirl.
Dolce & Gabbana, continuing a long‑standing creative partnership with Madonna, dressed the entire cast along with 250 extras. The album is a sequel to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, and is available to pre‑order now across all formats.
