Madonna biopic starring Julia Garner scrapped following world tour announcement
Madonna's self-directed biopic starring Julia Garner is reportedly no longer in development at Universal Pictures following the announcement of her upcoming world tour.
In June last year it was reported that Julia Garner had been offered the lead role in the upcoming Madonna biopic, but according to reports by Variety, Deadline and more, the biopic, which Madonna was due to direct herself, is no longer moving forward at Universal Pictures.
Madonna started teasing her upcoming biopic in 2020. It was set to be produced by Amy Pascal (Little Women, The Post, Spider-Man: Homecoming), and Madonna co-wrote the script with Diablo Cody.
News of the biopic being scrapped comes just days after Madonna announced The Celebration Tour, which will see her celebrate her 40-year career in 35 cities across North America, Europe and the UK. The Celebration Tour will be Madonna's first since her Madame X tour in 2019 and 2020.
Madonna will play The O2 in London on 14 October. Visit madonna.com for more information.
