London Brew (Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings and more) release new single "Raven Flies Low"
London Brew, aka Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings, Dave Okumu, Tom Skinner and more, have released their new single "Raven Flies Low" from their upcoming self-titled album inspired by Miles Davis' 1970 album Bitches Brew.
After announcing their London Brew album with the lead outing "Miles Chases New Voodoo in the Church" in January, the group, made up of Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings, Dave Okumu, Tom Skinner, Benji B and Theon Cross and brought together by producer and guitarist Martin Terefe and executive producer Bruce Lampcov, have shared a second outing titled "Raven Flies Low"
Violinist Raven Bush says: "Being able to play in a beautiful studio with this amazing group of musicians was an honour. With this type of record-making process, the music is just constantly unfolding in the room, so many brilliant moments are passing you by. I’m always somewhere else during improvisations….It was great to be reminded of this vibe we had going, I’m into it.
"When a recording session like this happens, the amount of ideas that gets generated is considerable. I don’t know how Martin [Terefe] and Bruce [Lampcov] managed to choose what made the album, there were so many dope moments!”
The collaboration was originally intended to be a live performance at the Barbican in honour of the 50th anniversary of Bitches Brew in early 2020. The album, inspired by Miles Davis' 1970 album Bitches Brew, was recorded in December 2020 at Paul Epworth's Church Studios in London.
"Raven Flies Low" is out now. London Brew will be released via Concord Jazz on 31 March, and is available to pre-order now.
