Little Dragon's Yukimi details her debut solo album, For You
Yukimi, the vocalist and co-founder of Little Dragon, has announced her debut album, For You, alongside the release of two new singles, "Sad Makeup" and "Winter Is Not Dead".
Speaking on "Sad Makeup" Yukimi commented: “I wrote a song called 'Sad Makeup' about those days when you try to push down and control a sad feeling. The more I try to control it, the more it’s felt by others around me, growing bigger as an energy"
"Living in Scandinavia, we must face our long, dark winters. The lack of light brings many of us down. At the same time, underground, life thrives. Microbes stay busy breaking down organic matter, recycling nutrients and improving the soil, quietly preparing for spring. I also grow during my personal winter seasons, even though things might feel dead on the surface. Wheels turn as I transform and move through it getting ready for spring and summer," Yukimi continues about the accompanying single, "Winter Is Not Dead".
“I want this music to really be a force to connect people to each other, and step away from the madness of everything on the planet right now," she says of the forthcoming debut album, "and I’m excited about embarking on that journey on my own – the expression really feels pure".
Last year, Yukimi released her debut single "Break Me Down". Co-written with Erik Bodin and Lianne La Havas, the collaboration was Yukimi’s first time writing and creating music with another woman, allowing her to fully express her feminine energy in an unguarded and personal manner. “Break Me Down” is produced by Erik Bodin, who played drums, bass and keys, with support from Lianne La Havas on guitar.
For You, is set for release on 28 March via Ninja Tune, and is available to pre-order now.
