"We got to get emo with the queen of emo": The Linda Lindas link with Hayley Wiliams for new song

“It feels perfect that Hayley Williams was down to collaborate on this song with us, because we’ve been fans of her throughout so many of her different eras – and she’s seen us grow up over the last ten years,” Bela Salazar and Lucia de la Garza said in a joint statement. “We’ll always be honoured that we got to write and get emo with the queen of emo herself.”

"Closer" brings Williams back into emo territory reminiscent of her work with Paramore. What began as a bilingual song written by Salazar and de la Garza while their bandmates were at school evolved into a wall of guitars and layered vocals featuring Williams, who joined them in the studio rather than recording remotely .

Gotta Get Out – which also features recent single "Burning Out" – is due 28 August and saw the band retreat to Palm Springs and Long Beach to write together in the same room, transforming unfinished ideas and spontaneous demos into what they describe as their most expansive collection to date.

The band will tour with Bleachers on the US west coast this autumn and play Tom Morello’s Power To The People Festival.
