Lim Orion previews upcoming album with "Futon" single

“‘Futon’ is a rebellion against the feeling of being overlooked,” Orion says of the track, which follows album opener "Story", released last month. “Based on the notion of yokai in Japanese folklore – in this song I am a mischievous spirit inhabiting your neglected futon. Frustrated, I throw a party with all the other furniture when you are out,” Toy Story-style. The result is a collision of 90s alt-rock and odd time signatures.

In contrast to Orion’s more minimalist and primitive 2023 debut Cosmic Salt, the new record adds in strings, field recordings, and a full-band energy captured live in the studio across a couple of days.

“The heart of the album is my imagination during a time where I felt like I couldn’t act,” Orion explains of the record's lockdown origins. “Each song is a different fantastical escape from that. I was struggling when I wrote these songs. It’s only now looking back across the lyrics I can see how they helped me to summon courage and to feel free.”

Lim Orion plays a string of UK dates around the release, including Camp Wildfire in Kent on 30 August, Brighton’s Folklore Rooms on 12 September, a full-band album launch at London’s Strongroom Bar on 2 October, and Margate’s Tom Thumb Theatre on 10 October.
