Lily Seabird unveils new song, “Portal to the Past"
Lily Seabird has released “Portal to the Past", the second preview of her upcoming album, Lightspheres on Their Way.
"Portal to the Past" follows lead single, "Election Day", and sees Seabird joined by her partner and guitarist Rick Soszynski as they layer fuzzy guitar textures for moments of "emotional decompression". It's an example of why, as Seabird comments, “the most emotional parts of the record are instrumental.”
“Trying to describe what inspires my writing is hard to figure sometimes," Seabird says. "A lot of these songs on this record wrestle with time and memory, our perception as it rolls forward, as the past gets further away and the future rolls out infinitely ahead of us. The light as it fades. This song came from a longer poem I wrote after waking from a vivid dream on a friend's porch in New Orleans. I think writing it in New Orleans brought a special energy to it. The energy is really intense there. Dwelling too much can sometimes create what feels like a portal and bring you right back to where you once were, that’s the portal to the past.”
Lightspheres on Their Way is released on 4 September via Lame-O Records
