Lily Seabird reveals plans for new album, Lightspheres on Their Way
Vermont-based musician Lily Seabird has announced her new album, Lightspheres on Their Way, and released her new song, "Election Day".
Lightspheres on Their Way follows Seabird's 2025 album Trash Mountain, and leans away from narratives to observations, which form songs from memories, events, and characters in her life. "Election Day" arrives as the first preview of the collection of songs, which takes inspiration from the likes of David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Elvis Presley, and bands like The Grateful Dead and Ween.
"This song is about having to make a decision and both options are painful, confusing," Seabird says of "Election Day". "I wrote this song on election day which works as a great metaphor for this in our current political climate but this song is not about voting. The chaos of painful decisions that are difficult and when it suddenly comes to a point where a decision does have to be made. Getting lost in the darkness, searching for the light."
Lightspheres on Their Way was mostly written during transient periods for Seabird, and was recorded and co-produced with collaborator Garrett Linck. Alongside her band, she tracked the songs within a few days at the start of the year in Linck’s home in rural Maine. “There is a boldness that comes with getting older, understanding myself a little more,” Seabird explains of how she navigates the themes on the album. Comprised of nine songs, she explores the concept of "lightospheres", of which she explains, “A lightsphere can be so many things. An actual light like a star, the sun, a UFO; headlights, a flashlight in the night; but also life, living things, people, relationships.
Ahead of the album's release, Seabird is set to return to the UK in August for a run of tour dates, which will include a headline show at The Lexington in London on 3 September, and a performance at End of the Road Festival in Dorset.
