Lil Wayne on Super Bowl halftime show snub: "It broke me, but I’m just trying to put myself back together"
Earlier this month, Kendrick Lamar was announced as the performer for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, which is taking place in New Orleans.
Whilst there were a plethora of positive comments about seeing Kendrick Lamar on the Super Bowl stage, a lot of people pointed out that the slot should have been given to New Orleans native Lil Wayne, despite there not being any rules on host cities having native performers.
Nicki Minaj, in particular, spoke her thoughts on the matter: “Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?”
Taking to his socials, Lil Wayne shared his thoughts on the matter, revealing the extent of his disappointment: “That hurt, it hurt a lot,” he said. “I thought there was nothing better that spot, on that stage, on that platform. It broke me, but I’m just trying to put myself back together.”
The performance will take place at The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on 9 February 2025.
