Laura Marling announces online songwriting workshop in partnership with School of Song
Laura Marling has detailed a new online songwriting workshop which will be run through School of Song.
Every week, Laura Marling will give a lecture on subjects specific to her songwriting process. Each class will result in a homework assignment to write a song using the techniques discussed in the lecture. In addition to the lectures, there will be weekly song-sharing sessions composed of peer review and an additional hour of live Q&A. The course will be taught online via live Zoom lectures across 4 consecutive Sundays from 23 March – 13 April with two lecture sessions on day to accommodate different time zones.
Some of the topics covered include Finding the Spine of a Song, Perspective & Character in Songwriting, Nourishing Lyrical Curiosity: Culture, Language, & Literature, Arranging as a Solo Artist, and Songwriting as Self-Reflection Through Life’s Changing Seasons.
Throughout the course, students will gain access to voice memos, early drafts, and behind-the-scenes insights into the songwriting process, offering a rare look at how songs evolve from idea to completion. By the end of this workshop, students will walk away with new songs, fresh perspectives on their creative process, and a deeper understanding of how to shape and refine their work.
