Young Galaxy team up with Dan Lissvik for new album 'Shapeshifting'
At the start of the year it was announced that D. Lissvik of Gothenburg production titans Studio would produce the new record by Canadian dream pop band Young Galaxy; I recall laying in the bath reading twitter one Monday morning and having a tweet from the bands Stephen Ramsay appear in my timeline “Sending our newly tracked album to Sweden this week to be given a Swedish massage by the great Dan Lissvik of Studio!” – This is the kind of information that can lead a guy to drop his phone straight in the tub.
A huge fan of both camps, I’ve been sitting patiently on this info – waiting for an announcement / release date and just when I was least expecting it, Gorilla vs. Bear broke the silence a few hours ago by unveiling new song ‘Peripheral Visionaries’. Worth the wait? You betcha.
Ditching the epic world weary shoegaze of their debut self-titled release from 2007,The bands third album, titled Shapeshifting, is described as “sexy, spacious, haunted by ghosts in silver, black and primary colours”. Quite the opposite then from the epic world weary shoegaze of their 2007 debut.
A producer that has defined the sound of the Swedish underground over the course of five or so years, Lissvik has once again employed his tropical tones to great effect. Download the track below and see for yourselves. Shapeshifting is out February 8 via Paper Bag.
