Wolfgang Van Halen shares debut solo single "Distance" as tribute to father Eddie Van Halen
Wolfgang Van Halen has released his debut solo single "Distance" as Mammoth WVH, and it arrives with a video paying tribute to his late father and rock legend Eddie Van Halen.
The heartfelt track is accompanied by a visual featuring clips of home videos showing the close relationship Eddie Van Halen had with his son Wolfgang Van Halen.
According to Ultimate Classic Rock, Wolfgang decided to put out "Distance" after his father died. He said, ""Distance" is a song that was initially written for the debut album, but was going to be held for a later time. As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I'd miss him. While this song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their own life."
Wolfgang Van Halen added that he "never anticipated "Distance" would be the first song of mine that people would hear, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release along with me."
Wolfgang Van Halen will donate his portion of all proceeds from "Distance" to Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, which aims to keep music alive in US schools by "providing vital support services to school districts, and new musical instruments to underfunded music programs nationwide."
