Who's playing the Best Fit stage at Iceland Airwaves?
Gus Gus, Django Django and Philco Fiction are among the bands announced for The Line of Best Fit stage at this year’s Iceland Airwaves festival.
Gus Gus rank as one of Iceland’s greatest musical collectives. Formed by 1995, they’ve been an ever changing quantity with Hafdís Huld and Emilíana Torrini among past members. Their output includes eight acclaimed records and their appearance is sure to be one of the highlights of the festival.
Scottish psychedelic quartet Django Django are riding high on the success of their self-titled debut which won a Mercury nomination last week. They’re firm Best Fit favourites along with Norway’s Philco Fiction (signed in the UK to the ever delightful Something in Construction).
The three bands are complimented by a trio of (Icelandic) homegrown talent – the genre-bending Retro Stefson, slick indie poppers Benni Hemm Hemm and mental-as-anything funk/afro/jazz collective Samúel Jón Samúelsson Big Band.
The festival runs from 31 October until 4 November and Best Fit takes over a room in the stunning Harpa complex on the Saturday evening. A feat of modern design and construction Harpa has redefined the skyline of Reykjavik – it’s an iconic behemoth and we have fond memories of amazing sets by Ólafur Arnalds and John Grant there last year.
Tickets for Airwaves 2012 are now sold out but best sure to follow the IA folk on Facebook for news of any ticket giveaways between now and October.
