White Hinterland's Casey Dienel reportedly drops legal action against Justin Bieber
Casey Dienel last year began legal action against Justin Bieber, Skrillex, BloodPop, and the rest of the writers of "Sorry", but she has now filed papers to dismiss the lawsuit.
Exactly why Dienel has decided to halt proceedings is unclear, but TMZ have reported that the case regarding the alleged ripping off of Dienel's White Hinterland track "Ring The Bell" is over.
In a statement last year, Dienel said:
Like most artists that sample music, Bieber could have licensed my song for use in “Sorry.” But he chose not to contact me. After the release of “Sorry,” my lawyers sent Bieber a letter regarding the infringement, but Bieber’s team again chose to ignore me. I offered Bieber’s team an opportunity to have a private dialogue about the infringement, but they refused to even acknowledge my claim, despite the obviousness of the sample. Justin Bieber is the world’s biggest artist, and I’m sure that he and his team will launch a full attack against me. But, in the end, I was left with no other option. I believe I have an obligation to stand up for my music and art.
"Ring The Bell" appears on White Hinterland's 2014 LP Baby, which is released through Dead Oceans. "Sorry" crops up on Bieber's latest record Purpose.
Earlier this year Dienel retired her White Hinterland moniker and released a new record through her own name - find out more about the LP and the change on Bandcamp.
