White Heat sheds a little light on the mysterious Keep Shelly in Athens

Having released their debut EP in December of last year on Forest Family Records, Keep Shelly in Athens have been shrouded in mystery from the start. A duo from Athens the line went, (much as the tales of Summer Camp being a Swedish duo did before them), whose plaintive, dreamy, ethereal disco pop is truly enveloping. Well, having played live in the UK for the first time last night at White Heat, it is certain that at least the latter portion of that sentence is true.
Stepping onto the stage as a quartet, vocalist Sarah P and the somewhat aloof band treated the eager but industry heavy crowd at Madame JoJos to a set that included previous Transparent Records 7” single ‘Hauntin’ Me’ and older numbers such as ‘Cremona Memories’ and ‘Rainy Night’ taken from their aforementioned EP, In Love With Dusk.
Supported by TLOBF favourite Star Slinger and the last minute addition of Disclosure, last night’s show was the first of many for Keep Shelly in Athens who are sticking around London for two more dates this week before heading off to Bristol and Manchester.
