White Denim release new quarantine album World As A Waiting Room
White Denim have released their new album World As A Waiting Room, which was written and recorded in just 30 days during the coronavirus pandemic.
Back in March, White Denim revealed plans to create a whole album from scratch during the global pandemic.
They gave themselves a 30-day deadline to write, record, mix and master an album, and today (8 May), the band have released the LP in full.
World As A Waiting Room features nine tracks, and includes their singles "I Don't Understand Rock and Roll" and "Work".
They recorded some basic tracking at their Radio Milk studio over a week before Austin's stay-at-home order came into affect. From thereon they worked remotely from their homes, while band leader James Petralli stayed at Radio Milk studio to finish his vocal recordings and overdubs.
Petralli says of the LP, "This project was both incredibly liberating and terrifying. Our isolation from one another during recording and the tight deadline created the necessity for more clearly defined roles and more direct and focused communication between the collaborators. For some of us it represented a way forward, for others a way out. I learned a lot about myself through this process and I think it is an important work for the band, captured at a pivotal moment in everyone’s lives."
He adds, "Oh, and it wasn’t made any easier by the enduring war I've been having with the raccoon who is trying to make his home in my attic throughout all this."
