Watch Sharon Van Etten cover Bruce Springsteen's "Drive All Night"
The latest installment in the A.V. Club’s Pioneering series—which visits locations with strong ties to seminal musicians—features Sharon Van Etten paying tribute to Bruce Springsteen with a performance of “Drive All Night” at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ.
The episode is split into two parts: the interview and the performance. For the documentary-style “interview” portion, the show’s hosts briefly discuss Springsteen and his association with Asbury Park, NJ, then sit down with Van Etten to discuss her ties to The Boss. When asked why she selected “Drive All Night,” she responds, “I just feel like sometimes people don’t think about his slower ballads as much, and it’s a nice song that I feel it sums up Jersey living as well as being a beautiful ballad.”
Van Etten’s new album, Are We There, comes out 27 May via Jagjaguwar.
