Trying to pin down Echo Lake‘s multi-faceted sound is like trying to balance a coin on an apple that’s floating in a pint glass of water (seriously, have you ever tried it? Fucking impossible). That said, the video for recent single ‘Breathe Deep’ is about as close you’ll get to visualising the sound that our favourite Lewisham resisdents have in their collective heads.
A slow, heady brew of haunting vocals – reverbed to within an inch of their life – nestle themselves against a sea of drugged up guitars and lazy drums. Words are indistinguishable, each phrase that flows out of Linda Jarvis blends into the next causing an avalanche of heaven sent melodies galloping across your ear lobes. Then there’s the video: a clusterfuck of neon imagery. Like a ZX Spectrum being forcefed acid and made to load a broken copy of Rainbow Islands. Don’t watch if you suffer from epilepsy, basically.
‘Another Day/Breathe Deep’ is out now as a 7” on No Pain in Pop.
