Vanilla Ice has finally cancelled his Independence Day show in Texas due to the coronavirus spike in the state.

Earlier this week, Vanilla Ice, aka the "Ice Ice Baby" 1989 one-hit-wonder, decided to announce an Independence Day 2,500 capacity show in Texas, a hotspot for new coronavirus cases in the US.

The show was due to take place this evening (3 July) at the Emerald Point Bar & Grill in Austin, but yesterday (2 July) on Twitter, Vanilla Ice revealed the show will no longer be going ahead due to the increase in new coronavirus cases in the state.

In the video, Vanilla Ice says, "I'm gonna give you a little update about the concert in Austin, basically i'm not going. I listened to my fans, I hear all you people out there. I didn't know the numbers were so craqzy in Austin, but we were hoping that it would be a lot better by 4 July 'cause we booked this concert a long time ago."

He adds, "Basically, I just wanna stay safe you know, we do take it serious, and we want to make sure that everybody's safe."

State Governor Greg Abbott responded to the spike in new COVID-19 cases by halting the reopening of bars and nightclubs in Texas.
