The UK’s independent labels are currently experiencing their biggest market share of album sales since the turn of the century, according to new figures.
Music Week report that indies currently boast a 26.4% slice of all UK album sales, a rise of 5% in the past year alone. This doesn’t, however, mean that independent album sales are at their highest point though, as overall album sales dipped 30% after 2005.
Data from the Official Charts Company also shows that 11 of the 100 biggest albums this year so far were independent released, the highest-selling being AM by Arctic Monkeys.
