The official UK charts are set to take online streaming figures into consideration when determining the Top 40, the head of BBC Radio 1 has confirmed.
George Ergatoudis revealed the news last night on Twitter, stating that “not just Spotify” but “other music streaming services will be included” also. Currently, the UK charts are determined by physical sales and digital downloads only.
The news follows America’s move in 2007 to incorporate streaming figures into the Billboard 100 charts.
