Twitter planning to extend character limit from 140 to 10,000
Rumours that Twitter is planning to extend the character limit from 140 to 10,000 have been confirmed by co-founder Jack Dorsey.
There's been a lot of talk recently about the proposed extensions - which reportedly could arrive by the end of Q1 - with Recode leading the way. Dorsey has now weighed into the fray, ostensibly confirming the new feature and explaining the company's decision to heavily modify one of their signature elements.
The Wall Street Journal suggests that the core model of Twitter could change: "It could transform... into more of a public blogging platform rather than one that is succinct and well-suited to quips and breaking news headlines."
However, according to reports, Twitter are planning to continue the "look and feel" of timelines by "encouraging brevity" and making users click to expand Tweets above the 140-character threshold.
