The War On Drugs' Anthony LaMarca, aka The Building, unveils new track "All Things New"
Anthony LaMarca, the guitarist of The War On Drugs, has revealed The Building's new single "All Things New".
"All Things New" is the third single to be shared from The Building's forthcoming album PETRA, after earlier offerings "Life Half Lived" and "Purifier".
Speaking about the new track, LaMarca explains, "I wrote "All Things New" a few years ago around the time I was going through the most intense part of my treatment. A lot of it is me expressing my fear, my wanting to just go back to having a 'normal' life. But also me accepting (or trying to accept) that that wasn't an option any more, and trying to see that that growth is a necessary part of life. And realizing that in that growth I will need help from others, that I can't do these things by myself."
PETRA will follow on from The Building's 2017 album Reconciliation.
LaMarca was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma while working on music at Youngstown’s Peppermint Productions. After being cleared, the disease returned a year later in the middle of recording PETRA. While the album title shares its name with his German Shepherd, it also took on a second meaning, Peace’s Eternal Truth Renews All.
While receiving treatment, LaMarca was editing and mixing the tracks for PETRA. He says, "Imagine me listening to these recordings. IV needle in the top of my hand. Headphones blaring. I always sit by the window. It’s beautiful out. Just a window away. Outside. Free. Not in there. Not with the needle. But out in the woods with my dog, with the tree that I like, that makes such a calming sound when the wind blows, and its leaves sort of sparkle too. That’s part of how this album was made. It seems dramatic or maybe tragic, but it’s not. Or more importantly, I don’t see it that way and I don’t intend for the music to be heard that way. It’s just the truth of what was happening in my life while I was recording these songs."
