The Maccabees' Felix White launches new record label and London club night
Felix White of The Maccabees has launched a new label called Yala! Records and club night to help up-and-coming musicians.
The first Yala! night will take place at the Bermondsey Social Club on 5 August and feature a headline performance from The Magic Gang, plus DJ sets from The Maccabees and Mystery Jets, and "very special guests".
“The Magic Gang have got this infectious energy between them that’s unexplainable,” says White. “You only find that in bands who you can tell are the real deal, they write such great songs.”
Tickets for the show will be available to purchase via ballot - register over at the Yala! website, and if you've been successful you'll be sent a link to purchase up to two tickets.
Yala! Records, founded with friend Morad Khokar (a publicist at Warner), aims to "independently record and release material from new bands".
"We thought this could be a nice opportunity to bring this community together, whether it be producers or designers or promoters we have known for a long time, working together on helping new music find its own way, and after that, the sky’s the limit," says White. "Everything starts with the club night though; it will be the focal point of what we do going forward, and with this opening line up we’ve set the bar suitably high for future nights."
