You could say many things about The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne – heck, he does enough talking himself – but what you can’t say anymore is that he holds the official rock song of Oklahoma.
The group’s Yoshimi track ‘Do You Realize?’ had previously held the title since 2009, with former Governor Brad Henry granting them the accolade.
Now, however, current incumbent Mary Fallin has decided not to renew the honour. Fallin’s Media Director Alex Weintz told eCapitol “that in Fallin’s first three months her administration was trying to focus on their priorities, and the state rock song simply wasn’t one of them.”
Flaming Lips’ new album, The Terror is out now.
